Posts about what tools you use to write with, including but not limited to pen and paper, software, typewriters, hardware, apps, world building organization programs, etc. This includes posts on starting or finishing drafts, writing and publishing milestones, memes, venting, pep talks, data loss, submissions (without further discussion) of other peoples' media reviews, and DAE (does anyone else) posts. We do not allow sharing for the sake of sharing. We will generally remove threads or posts: berating other people for their genre/subject/literary taste adherence or non-adherence to rules calling people morons for giving a particular sort of advice insisting that their opinion is the only one worth having being antagonistic towards particular types of books or audiences, or implying that a particular work is for the 'unwashed masses', or 'snobs', etc. Call-out threads and genre/literary-bashing It is also not our job to decide who may post here based on what someone does elsewhere-internet vigilantism and doxxing will not be tolerated.

Please report any instances of offensive talk and the mods will deal with them. Racist, homophobic/transphobic, misogynistic, ableist and other categories of hate speech (including against 'acceptable targets') will be removed. This rule also applies to the promotion of other subreddits as standalone threads however, linking subreddits in comment chains is acceptable. Exceptions may be made to talk about a specific resource, i.e., internet lectures, courses, books on writing or industry, but it must be written with an explanation of its use as a resource from the perspective of an interested user rather than an advert, and must not contain any direct posting of someone else's text. This includes advertisements for your book/film/game etc., blog, apps or websites, self-publishing platforms, or on behalf of any other company. Threads that touch on specific difficulties unique to writers such as asking for tips on inspiration, achieving word count goals or frustration with writing workflow may be posted in the main subreddit. Motivation Threadsĭiscussion of motivation or writer’s block should be posted in our twice weekly motivation thread. We do not allow writing prompts, posts soliciting writing prompts, or threads inviting people to share their work outside of the crit thread. Those are all good questions as they are universal to fiction writing and sometimes even to other disciplines.īook recommendation threads should be limited to asking for nonfiction writing resources or channels, rather than comparative titles in a particular genre or featuring a particular scene. You can ask about structural techniques, dialogue vs narration, using pov effectively in general and so on. We cannot determine what POV or tense you should write in.
It is your responsibility as the writer to come up with details of plot, character, character motivation, setting and magic/technological systems, mystery details, the beginning and ending to your story, and any other specific content direction.
If your question invites answers that are specific to your work alone, it is a better fit for our brainstorming thread. We ask that users frame their questions so they are useful to more than one person. We are not a place to talk extensively about the content of your work. Requests for critique and writing partners may only be posted in the critique thread or the stickied daily threads. Critique requests include soliciting feedback on ideas, queries, 'what should I write about X', etc. Samples of writing and critique requests may only be posted in the weekly self-promotion and critique thread. The moderators do reserve the right to remove posts/comments that are deemed harmful without warning and ban users depending on the severity of the infraction. Please keep these guidelines in mind for all of your posts and comments.
